Claremore Christian opens regular season with shutout

While many teams were still in scrimmages, Claremore Christian opened its regular season with a 46-0 mercy rule victory against Eagle Point Christian Academy Friday night.

The Warriors recovered five fumbles and intercepted three passes.  They also held the Eagles to -2 yards total offense and two first downs.

Booker T. Washington rolls to All-City title

Booker T. Washington beat Memorial 34-7 in the championship game of the 72nd Annual Grady Skillern All-City Preview Friday night at LaFortune Stadium.  That capped a dominant two-day run for the Hornets.  On Thursday they blanked Nathan Hale 63-0 and then downed East Central 35-14.  Earlier Friday, Booker T. Washington shut out Will Rogers 38-0.

Friday football scrimmage recap

Several organized scrimmages with mini-games wrapped up the preseason for Oklahoma high school squads Friday night.
Among the results from around the state:

OKC All-City Preview: Douglass, one of the favorites in Class 3A, took care of John Marshall 21-0 in the championship game of the Oklahoma City All-City Preview. The matchup was a preview of what will later be a regular-season meeting between District 3A-2 foes.
In the semifinals, John Marshall knocked off Star-Spencer 14-0 behind a strong performance from freshman Devonte Lee. Douglass rolled past Centennial 22-6 in the other semifinal. Star-Spencer capped off a solid weekend by knocking off Centennial 16-8 in the third-place contest.

Lincoln Christian hosts Night of Champions

There will be an impressive group of teams on hand for the Night Champions at Lincoln Christian School  Friday night.  Cascia Hall and Locust Grove will square off in the first of two mini-games at 7:00.  The second game will feature the host Bulldogs against Heritage Hall at 8:15.

Semifinals set in OKC All-City Preview

Tonight brings the semifinals and finals of the annual Oklahoma City All-City High School Football Preview. One thing is already certain, that this year’s event will have a new champion.

That’s thanks to Star-Spencer, who knocked off defending champion 6-0 in Thursday’s mini-game to advance to a semifinal date against John Marshall.

Both teams had to win twice on Thursday, with Star-Spencer defeating Northeast 16-0 and John Marshall taking down Western Heights and Northwest Classen.

In the other side of the bracket, host Douglass and Centennial moved on to the semifinals. Centennial knocked off Southeast while Douglass defeated Capitol HIll, which had started play on the evening with a victory against fellow independent U.S. Grant.

The seven schools not advancing will face off in mini-games at Star-Spencer tonight, with the semifinals, third-place game and finals set for Moses F. Miller Stadium at Douglass at 6, starting with the John Marshall-Star Spencer game.

Tulsa Public Schools All-City Preview kicks off tonight

The Grady Skillern All-City Football Preview begins tonight with a new format.  Three sites will be used with three teams at each one.  In previous years, only two sites were used.  Thursday’s schedule is as follows:

 

at S.E. Williams Stadium (Booker T. Washington High School):  Booker T. Washington v Nathan Hale 6:00, Booker T. Washington v East Central 7:30,  Nathan Hale v East Central 9:00

at LaFortune Stadium (Memorial High School):  Memorial v Daniel Webster 6:00, Memorial v McLain 7:30, Daniel Webster v McLain 9:00

at Marshall Milton Stadium (Daniel Webster High School):  Thomas Edison v Will Rogers 6:00, Thomas Edison v Central 7:30, Will Rogers v Central 9:00

 

The championship bracket will be Friday at LaFortune Stadium.  Consolation sites on Friday will be the East Side Sports Complex at East Central High School and Melvin Driver Stadium at McLain High School.  Action will be begin at 6:00 at all of those sites.

OKC All-City preview opens Thursday

The annual Oklahoma City All-City High School Football Preview Thursday and Friday highlights the final weekend of preseason scrimmages before the games start to count for real.

But make no mistake about it, there still is pride on the line as Oklahoma City Public Schools squads, joined by neighboring Millwood and Western Heights, begin play at Star-Spencer’s Twidell and Douglass’ Moses F. Miller Stadiums.

The schedule for Thursday at Douglass features Capitol Hill vs. U.S. Grant at 6; Centennial vs. Southeast at 6:45 and Douglass vs. the opening game winner at 7:30.

At Star-Spencer, John Marshall faces Western Heights at 5:30 and Star-Spencer meets Northeast at 6:15. The JM-WH winner takes on Northwest Classen at 7 while the SS-NE winner will face Millwood at 7:45.

Six consolation bracket games will be played Friday at Star-Spencer, with the semifinals, third place game and finals at Douglass at 6, 6:45, 7:30 and 8:15.

Millwood knocked off Douglass in last year’s All-City title game, 7-0.

First softball rankings posted

The first softball rankings of the season are now posted on the OSSAA Rankings web site.  A pair of defending state champions top class 4A and 2A in Hilldale and Dale, respectively.  Henryetta, Amber-Pocasset, and Arnett are No. 1 in classes 3A, A, and B, respectively.  Classes 6A and 5A do not have rankings because they are broken down into districts.
