Small school state softball on tap this week

State softball for classes 3A, 2A, A, and B will be this Thursday thru Saturday at the Ball Fields at Firelake in Shawnee.

The top-ranked squads in each class are all represented.  Their quarterfinal games are all set for Thursday.

Henryetta (29-3) will face No. 20 Vian (25-10) at 5:00 on Field 4 in class 3A.

Dale (29-6) squares off with No. 14 Wister (20-4) on Field 3 at 3:00 in class 2A.

Rock Creek (28-11) plays unranked Maud (23-10) at 11 AM on Field 2 in class A.

Arnett (30-5) faces No. 10 Cyril (25-6) on Field 1 at 5:00 in class B.

The championship finals are scheduled for the following times and fields on Saturday:

3A:  Field 3 at noon.  2A:  Field 1 at 3:30. A:  Field 3 at 6:00.  B:  Field 1 at 10:30 AM.

 

First softball rankings posted

The first softball rankings of the season are now posted on the OSSAA Rankings web site.  A pair of defending state champions top class 4A and 2A in Hilldale and Dale, respectively.  Henryetta, Amber-Pocasset, and Arnett are No. 1 in classes 3A, A, and B, respectively.  Classes 6A and 5A do not have rankings because they are broken down into districts.

Roff captures Dale Tournament

The first week of fall baseball has produced several strong matchups, and a strong field for tournament play in Dale this weekend.

Play began Thursday in the Dale Tournament. Here’s the schedule, including Thursday games already played. We’ll update results as we receive them.

First round, Thursday

Dale 10, Latta 1; Roff 6, Okarche 0; Tushka 12, Rattan 3; Asher 13, Oktaha 1

Semifinals, Friday

Rattan d. Oktaha; Okarche d. Latta, 10-2; Tushka d. Asher, 9-6; Roff d. Dale, 2-0

Finals, Saturday

5th place, Rattan 5, Okarche 3;  3rd place, Dale 3, Asher 0.; 1st place,Roff 9, Tushka 1

Roff started its season with a strong 7-0 victory against Asher Monday in a matchup of teams that figure to be in the state championship hunt.

Also picking up solid opening-day wins were Leedey, 11-3 at Okarche, Latta, 4-0 against Coleman and Olustee, which knocked off Blair 8-0. Colbert and Calera also started strong, each scoring close wins against Silo, Calera winning 4-3 and Colbert by a 3-2 margin.

Softball starts Monday

Fast pitch softball starts Monday.  Two east side schools hope to make a run at defending their 2013 titles.  Destiny Riddle was 35-5 with 201 strikeouts and a 0.94 ERA in leading Hilldale to the class 4A championship.  Riddle was equally strong at the plate as she finished with 10 homers, 56 RBI’s and a batting average of .410.  Annie Waters looks like a key cog for reigning class A champion Davenport.  Waters had a .504 average with 10 homers and 48 RBI’s.  She also scored 40 runs and stole 18 bases.  The rest of the 2013 champions are as follows:  6A  Southmoore, 5A Carl Albert, 3A Washington, 2A Dale, and B Red Oak.
