Skiatook football dramatics continue

Skiatook football has had plenty of drama the past two weeks.  The Bulldogs have split a pair one-point games.

Shawnee rallied late in week five for a 22-21 win.  Last week, however, Skiatook reversed that in beating McAlester 27-26.

The Bulldogs, noted for a strong rushing attack, thanks mainly to Kyle McLaughlin, took to the air to edge the Buffaloes.

Quarterback Cameron Hudson had three touchdown passes, the last covering 27 yards to Billy Beyen to put the Bulldogs up 27-20 in the third quarter.

McAlester scored with 1:23 left and decided to go for two after a Skiatook penalty.  The Buffaloes had a bad snap on that attempt though.

McAlester recovered the ensuing onside kick but lost a fumble deep in Bulldog territory with 50 seconds remaining.

Skiatook has another tough test on Thursday when it hosts district 5A-3 leader Tulsa Memorial at 7:00.

Several key matchups on tap as football begins second half

The second half of the high school football season kicks off this week and there are a number of key contests.

Beggs travels to Victory Christian in a key 3A-6 battle.  Both teams are 4-1 overall, but the Conquerors loss came at Checotah last week in a district game.

Cascia Hall plays at Oologah in 4A-3.  The winner of that game will improve to a perfect 3-0 in the district.

Skiatook had a heartbreaking loss at home to Shawnee last week and things don’t get easier this week.  The Bulldogs will play at unbeaten McAlester.

Lincoln Christian is at surprising Webster in a big 3A-5 matchup.  The Warriors are 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the district.  Webster hasn’t won five game in a season since 1995.

Solid matchups in both northeast and southeast in week 3

There are some good matchups featuring solid clubs from the northeast and southeast regions in week 3.

One features a possible playoff preview in class 5A as Pryor travels to McAlester.  Both teams had wins over solid opponents in week 2.

The Tigers beat 4A power Wagoner 24-7 while the Buffaloes went on the road and outlasted a good Coweta team, 45-41.

Wagoner looks to get back into the win column but that won’t be easy with a trip to rival Fort Gibson.

The Tigers have lost nine straight in the series.  The last three games were in the postseason, including a 28-7 Wagoner win last year.

Collinsville and Skiatook renew their long time rivalry in the highway 20 bowl.  This rivalry dates back to 1921.

The Cardinals have won the last three matchups, including 34-32 a year ago after a touchdown on the last play of the game.

McAlester-Muskogee clash highlights solid opening week

The Muskogee at McAlester contest is more than just your normal season opening game.  McAlester was the runner up in class 5A last year and figures to be in the mix for another run at the title.

Muskogee has a new head coach in Rafe Watkins.  Ironically, Watkins was the head man at Guthrie a year ago and led the Blue Jays past the Buffaloes in the title game.

Another intriguing season opener will be Vian and Davis facing off at Choctaw on Saturday at 3:30.  That will be the second game of a double header in the Totally Tickets Kickoff Classic.

The Wolverines and Wolves are no strangers to each other.  Davis has eliminated Vian the past two seasons in the class 2A semifinals.

The Ada at Ardmore contest is always a good rivalry.  The Cougars figure to be a contender in class 4A this year.
